New Unit Photography Work for ABC/Disney

New Unit Photography Work for ABC/Disney  Here is some of my new photography work for ABC/Disney.   I recently finished work on The Bachelor with Juan Pablo.  I also spent time photographing the Helio Castroneves, a Brazilian auto racing driver currently competing in the North American IndyCar Series. In IndyCar competition, Castroneves has 22 wins and 33 poles, and has never placed lower than sixth in the standings in a complete season of racing until 2011, where he placed eleventh. Prior to IndyCar, Castroneves competed in the CART championship with a highest championship points finish of fourth. He also was the Dancing With The Stars Mirrorball Trophy winner.   Here are a few images from both.  Renee and Juan Pablo bond during the hometown dates on The Bachelor Credit: Matt Dunn/ABC

New “Dangerous” Fashion and Beauty Story by Matt Dunn Photography

New “Dangerous” Fashion and Beauty Story by Matt Dunn Photography!!! We came up with the idea for a woman “James Bond” type story.  The beautiful model is Carolinne from Next Models Miami.  I was the stylist and weapon wrangler(all of the weapons are from my arsenal.  They include my crossbow, Marlin 60SS, Sig Sauer P220, and Windham Weaponry AR-15 with an Aim-Shot HG-Pro reflex sight and 4X magnifier.  The camera is a Nikon D300 with a  Nikon 70-200 2.8 AF-S lens.  The amazing makeup and hair was done by the incomparable Sherilyn Segal and many of the makeups were custom-formulated by her on the spot for this shoot.

New Editorial Shoot Half Competed

Here is a new fashion editorial I have half completed with the beautiful Brazilian bombshell Carolinne Rossi from Next Model Management in Miami Beach.  As usual, Ron Gerard supplied me with a great casting for a different client where I found Carolinne.  We hit it off immediately and had this project a week later.  I think she pulled it off beautifully.  I think I am going to call the editorial spread “SHOOTER”.  The fabulous and spot-on hair and makeup was done by the amazing Sherilyn Segal.  She always makes me look good.   Also a very special thank you to artist Michael Perez for letting us use Gallery 212 in Miami as a deco backdrop for our story.  He had a blast playing with all of my guns.  His hospitality is beyond reproach!  Should wrap up the shoot this coming Monday.

Happy New Year from Matt Dunn Photography

Happy New Year to everyone.  My December was crazy with multiple shoots for ABC television as well as many agency shoots.  I feel blessed to have so many that trust me to take their visions to the next level.

Miami Beach, South Beach agencies are getting back after it bringing the world back to south Florida.  We, collectively, brought the world to and created South Beach out of a retirement idealism and back to a vibrant energetic and yes hedonistic place, well beyond its past glory in the ’50s and ’60’s!  The model agencies are attracting new and fabulous talent, both boys and girls, and the kid divisions are also poised to flourish.  We are all looking forward to the economy picking up and the stagnation in advertising ending.  Looking forward to a fun and fabulous resurgence on the beach.

All my best

Matt

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER= PROBLEM SOLVER

To be successful, a fashion photographer must be an exceptional problem solver. As with most professions, to be at the top means one must roll with the punches and become a creative problem solver, overcoming obstacles both seen and unseen. We have learned that this is no longer no mans land and that our clients and team expect this quality from us.
Being a professional means you can consistently create an exceptional result, in any condition – not only when conditions are exceptional. We must shoot, sometimes, when we are feeling less than artistic.
Many times, whether on location or studio, problems must be expected. I know what you are thinking, “what a negative thought process”. I would think that too except I have been a professional photographer for more than two decades and I can tell you, either you are prepared or you are not.

Many of my clients come to me and ask me about why I brought so much equipment or why we didn’t use a certain piece of equipment. Just like I have many lenses and camera bodies I have modifiers, scrims, reflectors and an entire myriad of stands and configurations. Most of these are not for use in optimal conditions; quite the contrary. In Florida, as well as many places I seem to shoot, inclement weather can pop up at a moment’s notice. Also sun can end up not being where I want it or the intensity not what I need for a certain shot. Theses are the circumstances you must prepare for. As the leader of the team you are expected to solve all of life’s little problems.
Do you have some hairpins, duct tape, 2 sided tape, clamps of all shapes and sizes, Velcro, extra swimsuits, etc.? There really is no telling what can and will happen on a shoot. If you don’t cover it you better make sure someone else will. Much of the well being of the shoot depends on your team and talent feeling great and that you are in control makes everyone feel warm fuzzies. This is one reason I try to find out what everyone likes to drink. Even something that small can make someone really feel like you care and in return they will give you their best.
The other day, I was on a remote location in Key Biscayne and my model had to be up against this banyan tree, which was infested with bull ants. Well I didn’t have any repellent but my makeup artist did! It takes a team, a trusted team, to make things happen and everyone must go beyond their expected duties to be prepared. I call this professionalism and this all goes into the final product of these types of shoots.
The following day, we had another amazing day in Key Biscayne. This day ended up being one of the hottest and most miserable days I have ever been on location. I was sweating so much that I feared changing lenses for the sweat getting into the camera body. My makeup artist and myself, as well as the crew and models had to make adjustments in our normal protocol to successfully negotiate the obstacles at hand. The heat was unbearable, sandspurs and ants, painful, and the tide was exceptionally high but we made it work.
Make certain that your team and you have collaborated before and you all know each other’s propensities, shortcomings, and idiosyncrasies. It makes the shoot go smoothly and gives you the best chances for a magical result.

Parents Always Ask “What About the Model Searches like Manhattan Model Search and ProScout?”

It seems obvious one of those companies who comes through town must be in the Orlando area, selling a weekend to “be discovered” because I have had so many parents ask our opinion about such things. Interestingly I have heard these questions from parents from kids who aren’t tall enough yet, old enough yet, one girls still has braces, another needs to work on her body, and yet this company is selling them packages to be seen by agencies in October (for $1500)

I  am realizing the two biggest common mistakes aspiring models and their parents make: 1) Listening and trusting the wrong people 2) Pursuing things too soon when they aren’t in model shape, are too young, haven’t done their homework about the industry, and/or haven’t cleared up their skin, grown in over-tweezed eyebrows, etc…

SO….trust your gut, YES, they make their money selling hundreds of people for each city. People will tell me their child has been “SELECTED” but the reality is you’ve been “SOLD”. Even if someone has potential, if they are not ready, they will got lost in the shuffle, and it’s like throwing money down the drain. THERE IS A BETTER WAY. My promise to you is that I am committed to letting you see behind the curtain, the curtain they don’t want you to see behind.  Actually it is closely guarded.

For over 20 years I have felt very passionate about helping aspiring models and their parents understand the business and to help guard them against the predatory companies selling them unnecessary classes, expensive shoots, giant model conventions, weekend scouting events, and outrageous website fees.

After our recent turn of events, we are now more determined than ever to be the voice and help educate people through our website. Stay tuned…

One more time, TRUST YOUR GUT. If you’re asking if things are unnecessary and too much money, you already know the answer…

Beautiful Kyla

THESE ARE A FEW “BEFORE” IMAGES OF KAYLA BEFORE MAKEUP, HAIR STYLING, FASHION STYLING.
Had a great day last week shooting multiple editorial looks with a new model John Fisher, a fellow photographer, found. With the looks of Kyla he will have no problem placing her with a top agency. Between John and I, we have placed more than 10 models in the last 6 months. We have become quite good at spotting talent and placing them with appropriate agencies to get them working and in the mainstream of the modeling business.

Images From Kylas First Photo Shoot with Matt Dunn

If you are an aspiring model who wants to be with either a top Miami agency or New York agency contact me and we will see what we can do to expedite your journey.
Matt Dunn Photography utilizes more than 20 years of fashion business expertise to provide innovative personal management to new and experienced talent.

Having a plan from day one is of the utmost importance to any model who wants a successful, long-term career.
The fashion industry is driven by youth and trends that can make one model a star and another yesterday’s news. Day rates and earnings depend on changes in looks and styles and a modeling career can be unexpectedly cut short.

Only a very small percentage of all aspiring models actually make it to the superstar level. However, with proper planning, solid understanding of the business and one-on-one personal guidance from our expert team, talent can have enduring and lucrative careers.
Most models lack experience to stay in control of their careers and end up getting lost in the innumerable sea of other models.
We help our talent establish a strategy from day one based on our expertise and your expectations and goals. We can become your voice in an otherwise difficult business. We are a support system where we can develop and implement plans and bring them to fruition through our networks of top hair, makeup, and stylist, as well as world-class photographers. Our vast pool of top agency contacts from around the world allows us to match you with the agencies with whom your look will be the most compatible.
