I recently got to photograph a new beauty from Michele Pommier Models. She is definately on the way back to being the top agent on the beach as long as she keeps discovering and developing talent like Kelsey. Kelsey is a breath of fresh air. Fun, full of energy, and willing to try new things; just what is needed to grow as a model.

Model Launcher Desparate Attempt to Discredit Those Who Stand Against Them

There is a new and insidious wave of cyber-sites on the internet that do nothing more than promise fame, fortune,and fairness to the new and unwary young models. Therefore they muddy the water for the model who doesn’t know any better.
Remember the model scams of the past?
Paying agencies for photo packages all the while getting no promotion. Mass model searches as Pro-Scout, Manhattan Model Search ect are all forms of this.Sure, once in a long while and after taking tens of millions of dollars in fees from the unwary, they will run across someone who really is model material. Sure, a representative from real agencies show up since they are promised an expense account at a nice Florida hotel(from the “scouting” company). Many time they are paid a fee as well all from the fees you pay to objectively get advice. The agents also know they “may” stumble upon a diamond in the rough.
The new wave of these scams, like MODE LAUNCHER, have no licensing, hide in little rooms behind computers, and seem harmless all the while gleaning information from those kids, promising contests and trips to South Beach to shoot with top photographers. They are profiting, by deception,by selling their information all the while gaining what seems to be and audience. They promise the streets are paved with gold and that winning one of their “contests” will change your life. They steal images right off the internet and intimate they have something to do with, or started these models career. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am here to tell you the truth. Lets quickly get to the “Contest” portion. These are rigged and are chosen by Bill Staniford, AKA William Staniford as well as a few of his associates. How do I know this? Because he tried to recruit me into his slimy business so he could use my knowledge and credibility in this business to help repair and bolster his reputation.
He is trying to cloak himself and his intentions by getting seeming endorsements from a few highly respected names, like myself, in this business. Staniford’s latest offensive is to name, only Matt Dunn Photography, in a blog post. Why? Because I have and continue to pull back the curtain on his latest scam.
I have been in this business for more than 30 years, first as a model and then a successful photographer for the past 25+ years. I have never met such an arrogant, self-centered individual as Bill Staniford. Model Launcher, Staniford’s business, has been in effect for little more than a year. He believes that no matter who is in the room he is smarter than him. Rules don’t apply to his nor does fairness so what he does and who he does it to has no effect on him.
Now that I have lifted the veil on him and Model Launcher, so to speak, he has sent me hate driven emails and now is putting up a few detrimental blog entries.

The first threatening email I received from Bill after I wrote my first blog entry uncovering his deceptive photo posting and intimation that he had something to do with these models.  Note he still is defending his deception.

This is all driven because I refused to work with Model Launcher as I had heard this scamming concept before and continue to tell the people to stay away. Here is the email I got from him yesterday in his hate-filled rage.

He believes he can tell lies about me and people will blindly follow and not do their homework. I have a world-wide amazing reputation and am producing work for magazines and advertising consistently. Call any agency in Miami Beach, let alone in New York and you will find out that Model Launcher and Bill Staniford are invisible to the industry. I am sympathetic to models as it has gotten tougher and tougher for them to sift though all of the garbage,the pedophiles, thieves, and scams with all of these predators coming at them from all angles.

Continuing with a scam that is ongoing, Bill Staniford, AKA Mansfield Staniford who was involved with a Russian spy that was deported by the US government,keeps copyright infringing on photographers, model, makeup artists, stylists, and model agency masquerading as and agent. He and his cronies keep duping Facebook kids ranging from 10-25 into believing Model Launcher is an illegitimate model scouting organization. He knows he is tricking children as I have informed him as well as other of his business associates of his. He has absolutely NO TIES TO THE FASHION BUSINESS. I am about to turn him into the agencies he continues to steal from and he will be finished. Model Launcher is a scam and has no ties to the industry and never will. I talked to many of my friends who are in the model management business and they are behind me in pulling back the curtain on the deception that is Model Launcher.

MODEL LAUNCHER PREDATOR OF WANNABES

Model Launcher and owner Bill Staniford, formerly of Property Shark,who was also involved with dating a Russian spy, is at it again. Misrepresenting his new company as a viable and successful model scouting firm all the while propping himself up abusing a loophole in Facebook to basically steal images from all corners of the world. Even though it has been pointed out to him, Staniford and his company continues to pilfer from image makers, model talent, singers, actors and actresses,hair and makeup artists, clothing stylists and countless others in the “real business” Staniford passes himself off as belonging to. He is stealing from the same industry professionals he is wanting and trying to be a part of. He is using photos of Rhianna, Heidi Klum, Irina Shayk with Select Model Management,and Izabel Goulart with Women Models,among others, all without their permission. He knows all of this as it is willful misrepresentation and wants to mislead the wannabe model public, most notably young boys and girls, into believing he has something to do with the successful promotion of these models, singers, and actors. He is doing all of this in hopes of creating a following/ ie. traffic to his fallacious sites. In a recent email exchange I had with Mansfield Staniford I told him: You know what you have been doing is illegal and immoral since when I pointed out how you were misrepresenting yourself and company(federal copyright infringement) you had one of your minions quickly take down my notices on Facebook to continue your deception. He then tried threatening me:
“I am sure that you wouldn’t want someone attempting to destroy your online reputation, would you? That wouldn’t be very good for business, would it? I would kindly ask you to remove your fallacious comments regarding Model Launcher within the next 24 hours and we can both pretend that we never met each other.”
The only one being fallacious here is MODEL LAUNCHER, Bill Staniford aka Mansfield Staniford who is masquerading as someone connected to the fashion,beauty,music, and acting business.

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER= PROBLEM SOLVER

To be successful, a fashion photographer must be an exceptional problem solver. As with most professions, to be at the top means one must roll with the punches and become a creative problem solver, overcoming obstacles both seen and unseen. We have learned that this is no longer no mans land and that our clients and team expect this quality from us.
Being a professional means you can consistently create an exceptional result, in any condition – not only when conditions are exceptional. We must shoot, sometimes, when we are feeling less than artistic.
Many times, whether on location or studio, problems must be expected. I know what you are thinking, “what a negative thought process”. I would think that too except I have been a professional photographer for more than two decades and I can tell you, either you are prepared or you are not.

Many of my clients come to me and ask me about why I brought so much equipment or why we didn’t use a certain piece of equipment. Just like I have many lenses and camera bodies I have modifiers, scrims, reflectors and an entire myriad of stands and configurations. Most of these are not for use in optimal conditions; quite the contrary. In Florida, as well as many places I seem to shoot, inclement weather can pop up at a moment’s notice. Also sun can end up not being where I want it or the intensity not what I need for a certain shot. Theses are the circumstances you must prepare for. As the leader of the team you are expected to solve all of life’s little problems.
Do you have some hairpins, duct tape, 2 sided tape, clamps of all shapes and sizes, Velcro, extra swimsuits, etc.? There really is no telling what can and will happen on a shoot. If you don’t cover it you better make sure someone else will. Much of the well being of the shoot depends on your team and talent feeling great and that you are in control makes everyone feel warm fuzzies. This is one reason I try to find out what everyone likes to drink. Even something that small can make someone really feel like you care and in return they will give you their best.
The other day, I was on a remote location in Key Biscayne and my model had to be up against this banyan tree, which was infested with bull ants. Well I didn’t have any repellent but my makeup artist did! It takes a team, a trusted team, to make things happen and everyone must go beyond their expected duties to be prepared. I call this professionalism and this all goes into the final product of these types of shoots.
The following day, we had another amazing day in Key Biscayne. This day ended up being one of the hottest and most miserable days I have ever been on location. I was sweating so much that I feared changing lenses for the sweat getting into the camera body. My makeup artist and myself, as well as the crew and models had to make adjustments in our normal protocol to successfully negotiate the obstacles at hand. The heat was unbearable, sandspurs and ants, painful, and the tide was exceptionally high but we made it work.
Make certain that your team and you have collaborated before and you all know each other’s propensities, shortcomings, and idiosyncrasies. It makes the shoot go smoothly and gives you the best chances for a magical result.

Are You a Professional Photographer?
Take this simple test to see if you (or someone you know) shows the characteristics of a true
professional.
1.
You pay taxes on your income.
You file estimated tax payments q
uarterly, file state sales tax,
and you claim your income on your tax return. If you don’t, think about the number of people
who see your “page” on Facebook. It won’t take long for the state and federal revenue people
to connect your FB “business” with the fact that you don’t obey the law and report your income
like a real professional.
2.
You have a real website
. Facebook doesn’t count. A website legitimizes you as someone who
will be around in a couple of years, and knows how to run a business.
3.
You have an established post production workflow with backups and offsite storage
. If
not, what are you going to tell your clients when something trashes their images and don’t have
the originals?
4.
You have backup equipment
. Say you drop your main camera/lens at a wedding. What will
you do? Where is your backup gear? How will you respond in front of your client?
5.
You set custom white balance and calibrate your monitors
. If you don’t know what these
are, that might explain why your images don’t produce consistent colors.
6.
You don’t rely on filters, special effects, color gimmicks or other manipulation to give
your images appeal
. If they can’t stand on their own with basic post production, are they really
that good? Getting the exposure right “in camera” is a hallmark of a talented professional.
7.
You work with reputable print labs and equipment to generate quality printed output and
products
. Your clients really do want prints. Are you going to let them produce terrible prints at
the local giant store? Have you ever compared the difference?
8.
You have insurance
. You cover your equipment, liability, and errors and omissions. Stuff
happens. Are you professional enough to be prepared?
9.
You know how to use your camera outside of “Automatic”.
Can you estimate a manual
exposure in bright sunlight? Do you know how to use a light meter? Can you calculate
equivalent exposures across a range of ISO, shutter speed and f-stops? A professional can do
that in her head.
10.
You know how to use all kinds of light, natural and artificial
. If you sell yourself as a
“natural light” photographer, you may not have the skills to use supplemental light to create
good images. Use of on camera and off camera flashes is often a necessity.
11.
Your web/portfolio/sample images are clean
. Are yours blown out, dull, out of balance,
uninteresting or poorly composed? How do you know? Have you ever had another
photographer that you respect give you honest critique on your images? Your clients are not
the best judge of image quality.
12.
You use contracts and model releases for your sessions.
Do you realize you can be liable
if you publish images that don’t have releases, particularly for minors?
13.
You belong and actively participate in professional photography organizations.
Are you
in WPPI, PPA or a
local group? If not, why not? These groups exist to provide guidance and
fellowship and development to professionals of all levels.
14.
You pursue continual education.
What is the last photography class you have taken? Are
you pursuing a degree or merit program? Do you teach or mentor other photographers? If not,
why not? The best professionals continually grow and share with others.
15.
You represent the business of photography professionally.
This means that you charge a
fair price, you don’t copy others’ work, you follow through on your commitments, produce
quality products and services, and you treat other photographers with respect.
